‘We are here to serve the people and not play politics’
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will remain focused on providing service to the people and there will be no talk of creating a new political party, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
He also said that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has proven his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic by introducing economic packages, such as the National Economic Revival Plan (Penjana) and Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (Prihatin).null
“There is no question of opening a new political party.
“Our focus is on ensuring a stable and strong government with the Prime Minister focused on solving the country’s health and economic issues.null
“He has proven that he is able to solve such a mammoth crisis, ” he said referring to the pandemic.
“Our focus remains on providing service to the people post-Covid-19 in a challenging economy.
“Prihatin and Penjana are efforts from the government as proof that the problems and worries of the people are being addressed, ” he told reporters after presenting awards at the 2019 excellent service awards to the staff of International Trade and Industry Ministry and Department of Standards Malaysia.
Azmin said the Perikatan Nasional government has been running smoothly without issues and no one is talking about the prime minister’s post or who will take over.
“No one has asked (within Perikatan) who the PM will be during the past three months (when Perikatan took over the Federal Government).
“It has been peaceful for three months. If Pakatan enters again, that will be the discussion everyday. I am PM8 (eighth prime minister), I am PM9, I am PM10. Enough is enough, ” he said, referring to the PM succession issue which had dogged Pakatan Harapan throughout its 22-month tenure.
He was also asked of his views on the resignation of Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi and grassroots leaders from the party on June 13.
He said that it is time his former party PKR stopped “victimising” its members by dragging them into the squabbles between two individuals who want to become the prime minister.
“PKR has to take the responsibility (of those leaving the party).
“There is one person who needs to carry out a self-reflection, ” said Azmin without naming the person.
