Today In History: Mandela on four-day visit to Malaysia

1 November 1990, KUALA LUMPUR: Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s anti-apartheid leader, was welcomed by the Prime Minister when he made a four-day visit to Malaysia in a 20-day tour of five Asia-Pacific countries.

The 72 year old deputy president of the African National Congress was originally scheduled to visit Malaysia on 19 October but his trip was postponed in view of the country’s general election.
