Azeez gets go-ahead for travel to Palestine
PUTRAJAYA: Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been given the green light to travel overseas as head of the humanitarian mission 4 Palestine (HM4P), immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said today.
Azeez is scheduled to leave tonight for Jordan for the mission that will take him to al-Quds and Gaza.
According to Khairul Dzaimee, Azeez submitted his application and other documents, including a support letter from Wisma Putra and a court release letter, to the immigration department last week.
He said the application was approved by the special joint committee under the law minister and the home ministry which evaluated the application based on humanitarian assistance.
“There is no issue about Azeez going abroad as he had submitted his application and the relevant support letter,” he said today on the former Tabung Haji chairman’s international travel when Malaysia is still under the movement control order (MCO).
The two-week HM4P organised by the Umno welfare bureau which Azeez heads, is aimed at delivering food and medical aid to the two locations which came under attack from Israeli forces last month.
Azeez needs the court release as he is facing three corruption charges over road projects in Perak and Kedah involving RM5.2 million as well as 10 charges of money laundering involving RM140 million under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC).
The media had earlier reported that Kuala Lumpur sessions judge Azura Alwi had allowed Azeez’s application to hold his international passport from June 10 to July 20, 2021 for the purpose.
Khairul Dzaimee said the approval to travel in the mission was given on the condition that there should not be more than 10 persons in the delegation, apart from being subject to the current SOPs.
On May 25, deputy foreign minister Kamarudin Jaffar said a humanitarian mission for Palestinians planned by renowned missionary Ebit Lew was approved for him to travel, subject to the current SOP.
