Ku Li’s seat change comes as a surprise to PAS
KOTA BARU: The recent decision by Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to change his seat to the independent bloc in Dewan Rakyat, comes as a surprise to PAS.
Its vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said this was because Umno previously made a decision to support and be with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government until Parliament was dissolved.
“This is a surprise move as before this, Umno had issued statements to support the PN government and suddenly, he (Tengku Razaleigh) asked for his seat to be changed.
“We (PAS) could not say anything as it is his (Tengku Razaleigh) right to do so,” he told reporters when met at his home yesterday evening.
The deputy Kelantan Menteri Besar also said Tengku Razaleigh or Ku Li was known for making decisions different from others.
“If you follow his political history, this Umno veteran likes to make his own decisions and he wants to be ‘independent’ in his own way,” he said.
It was reported that Tengku Razaleigh (BN-Gua Musang) was now sitting in the independent bloc in the Dewan Rakyat after making a formal request on Monday.
This was confirmed by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon who said the necessary arrangements were made after receiving the request from Tengku Razaleigh.
Apart from Tengku Razaleigh, Rashid said the House had not received any new requests from other MPs to switch to a new bloc, whether from the government or the opposition side. – NST ONLINE
