News | 30 percent women as Chairman, Board officers in MPIC agencies – Zuraida

KUALA LUMPUR, 7TH SEPT : The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) would see a reform in its several agencies where 30 percent women will be appointed as Chairman, Board members and Chief Executive Officers.

Its Minister, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said more women should be appointed in decision making positions and strategic positions to achieve gender equality and transform urban space to become more gender friendly.

“It takes a dynamic administration mindset to drive the city forward.

“MPIC has several agencies that would see a reform in the appointment of Chairman, Board members and Chief Executive Officers.

“I will ensure that 30 percent women will be appointed in those said positions to ensure a balance and dynamic administration,” she said in her opening speech at Women’s Assembly Malaysian Urban Forum 2021 entitled ‘A Gender Inclusive Covid-19 Recovery’ yesterday.

Zuraida added, she has evidently appointed 30 percent women in strategic positions when she was the Minister of Housing and Local Government before.

“The philosophy will continue in MPIC,” she said.

Malaysian Urban Forum this year was organised by Urbanice Malaysia to discuss on how Covid-19 has affected urban women and girls, especially in the areas of endemic discrimination and health issues.

Malaysia is the first in the region to build an effective and comprehensive digital ecosystem that offer the platform for safety measures for women and girls. – PPI
