News | MACC nabs 6 in Penang over alleged false claims
GEORGE TOWN: Six individuals, including a former aide to a special officer of a state exco member, were arrested yesterday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly filing false claims amounting to RM80,000 for a hawkers programme.
According to an MACC source, the three men and three women aged from 25 to 50 were arrested when they turned up at its office for questioning.
They were believed to have filed supply documents with falsified details for a hawkers programme that was never implemented in 2020.
“Three of them are currently detained and will be released on MACC bail within 24 hours, while the others will be taken to the magistrates’ court tomorrow for a remand application,” said the source.
MACC Penang director Lim Bee Kean confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – FMT
