News | Leaked documents of alleged plot to topple Umno ‘rubbish’, says PAS veep

PETALING JAYA: PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has denied that there is a plot to topple Umno leaders following reports of leaked documents that went viral.

“The leaked documents thing is rubbish to me,” Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, said when asked by reporters.

He said there was no truth in the leaked documents and he did not know where such documents even came from.

“Do people believe ‘rubbish’ documents like that?” he asked, based on a Facebook live video posted by Terengganu PAS.

The leaked documents are believed to be minutes of a PAS meeting which allegedly mentioned a plot to topple and disrupt Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Several prominent figures have been linked to the alleged plot, including Samsuri, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Bersatu leaders Azmin Ali and Hamzah Zainudin.

Asked if legal action would be taken, Samsuri said such allegations were not worth entertaining.

When contacted, PAS vice-president Amar Nik Abdullah described the plot as “too good to be true”.

Earlier, Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Shabery Cheek called on PAS leaders to clarify the leaked documents.

He said since the documents involved the leadership of a party that was part of the current federal government, it was crucial that an immediate denial be issued if the contents were untrue.

According to the documents, there is also a plan to expedite the cases involving Umno’s “court cluster”, namely party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Razak, who are either on trial or have been convicted on charges such as criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering. – FMT
