Today In History: Asri quits PAS post

24 October 1982, Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Asri Che Muda resigned as PAS president amidst mounting pressure from party members seeking his removal. Yusof Rawa assumed the post, with Fadzil Noor as deputy president. PAS leaders described the resignation as a timely means of saving Datuk Asri’s face in view of dissatisfaction over his leadership since the last election. Two other party stalwarts also resigned.
